Julie Hail Flory

Associate Vice Chancellor for University Communications

One of the things I love about my job is that no two days are ever the same. I wear many hats, but above all, I like to think of myself as a problem solver. Whether it’s how to get attention for WashU research, finding opportunities to share our faculty’s expertise, or keeping our campuses informed and inspired, there’s never a dull moment.

I’m lucky to lead a talented team of professionals who work every day to tell the university’s story through media relations, the Newsroom and the Record, and to showcase captivating speakers in the long-revered Assembly Series.

I came to WashU in 2014 from the University of Notre Dame, where I’d spent 13 years in public relations. Before then, I was a journalist, working as a television news reporter in Colorado, Idaho and Indiana.

I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and studied journalism at San José State University. I am now very proud to call myself a St. Louisan. When I’m not working, I enjoy cooking, making things out of yarn and being a crazy cat lady. My husband, Ryan, and I are raising three kids who so far seem to be turning out pretty well.
