Danforth

  • most Danforth scholars live here
  • as with all modern dorms:
    • Most of these rooms share 1 bathroom w/2 sets of roommates. Bathroom cleaned once a week by housekeeping.
    • Lights: none provided. I bought a desk lamp and could have used a bed lamp. A lot of people also put LED light strips up but that’s more of a decoration

  • Near Swamp/bball courts/hammocks
  • Spacious 1st floor library, lounge
  • Some of the cleanest/most flexible chair-table-arrangemen classrooms on 1st floor
  • Some singles on 1st floor (~4 single rooms sharing 1 bathroom)
  • Faculty fellow is active walks Piper, a cute tiny dog
  • Best convocation chant

  • Location. Rather far from BD, Clocktower
  • RAs range from effective to non responsive
  • Weed
  • Creepy piano room

Dardick

  • in all dorm rooms & general rooms, you can adjust the thermostat from ~50-90°. dardick is Not Like The Other Dorms™
  • Very clean / Spacious lobby area with sofas and a plasma screen TV.
  • Plenty of study rooms (2 per floors and 3 large rooms on the first floor) / Printers (!)
  • Because it’s just straight hallways of rooms, even though it’s a modern you get the a strong community vibe
  • 2 Yamaha pianos, most tuned ones in s40, music stands
  • Location. (Because it’s right on Shepley Drive, you can always get dropped off right in front of Dardick and don’t have to walk across the 40 to get to your dorm. Also useful when ordering food to tell them “the first building on the left.”
  • When there are a lot of people making noise on the Swamp, it won’t bother you because it’s so far away
  • 10 foot ceilings if you live on the first floor (!!)
  • Campus Circulator and Delmar Loop stop in front
  • Friendly housekeeping
  • New RCD is Christian Barefield

  • Location. (Because you’ll never see the swamp and won’t know if there’s anything interesting happening there. Also, if you live on the parking lot side of Dardick, during the Spring the softball team practices at 8 am with loud pop hits that will always wake you up.
  • Lax quiet hours policy all year
  • RAs range from effective to non responsive
  • previous RCD Brian Johnston is not effective
  • Inactive faculty fellows

Eliot A

Modern singles, some of the best amenities, caring RAs, decorative plants in hallways, nice library, quick access to BD/post office/anything relevant… in the running for the best s40 dorm. see this google drive for proof 😉

Poor call reception in basement

Koenig

  • Most of these rooms share 1 bathroom w/2 sets of roommates. Bathroom cleaned once a week by housekeeping.

  • Location. Close to post office, BD, clocktower, largest s40 parking garage. Far from Habif, but Habif hours are so limited it’s irrelevant :p
  • 1st floor has tallll ceilings
  • Comfy lobby, library
  • Wholesome hall bonding weekly events
  • Best basement in s40: pool table, ping-pong, kitchen, etc
  • Connects with sophomore dorm Liggett, access to 2 laundry rooms
  • Campus Circulator and Delmar Loop stop in front
  • Good lawn where soccer and médiéval fencing occurs

  • Popcorn ceilings
  • Alcohol problem
  • Laundry in basement
  • Terrible reception and wifi in basement
  • Untuned piano, worst Steinway I’ve heard
  • Bad phonecall quality in dorm rooms, must experiment to optimize the call reception

Lien

Like Dardick in building/hallway style but superior amenities

➕

Nice lobby with TV, library

Peaceful swinging bench in back

Location – right across to dining, post office, clocktower, Ursa’s nite life, student-run businesses, the Underpass, clients to Danforth main campus

Nada, lien is low-key contender for Best Dorm

Umrath

  • Modern singles
  • some of the best amenities
  • caring RAs
  • RCD Austin Quarles is present and fair
  • decorative plants in common rooms, nice library
  • cute reslife traditions/bonding activities
  • Amazon giveaway in reslife bonding activities
  • mirror closets
  • quick access to BD/bear necessities/everywhere … you have it made in (one of) the best s40 dorms
  • Campus Circulator and Delmar Loop stop in front

  • Reduced sense of community bc Umrath is the largest first-year dorm
  • ~90 to a floor compared to ~30 in average modern building floor
