Located in the Department of Genetics at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri, the Schedl lab studies germline development of the soil nematode C. elegans. We use genetic, genomic, molecular, cellular and developmental approaches to investigate:
- The decision between germline stem cell proliferation and meiotic development
- Progression through meiotic prophase & gametogenesis
- Mitochondria and germline development
- Germline sex determination
- In collaboration with Drs Qiang Wang and Kelle Moley we also investigate mouse oocyte maturation and the consequences of physiological perturbations including high fat diet and diabetes
