Teachers, the following video modules were created to support teachers of the Deaf, but much of their content and strategies is applicable across all children. We hope you find some helpful tips in the videos and handouts, linked below. For more information, email Sarah at sarah.cheathamoberle@wustl.edu.
Introduction to Executive Functioning Development and Supports
After you watch this first video, we hope that you’re able to list the different EF skills and understand how they develop. And as you learn about the tight relationship between language and executive functioning, we hope you’ll start to reform your cognitive framework to include EF alongside language development. Check out our handout for more information
Organization
This brief video is designed to help you articulate the value of organization in students’ everyday lives, recognize signs that students may struggle with organization, and be equipped with strategies to support your students’ organization skills. Check out our handout for more information
Planning Part A
This video is designed to help you “think like a therapist.” As you watch it, we hope you’ll consider a new framework for conceptualizing planning and better understand the complex web of skills that contribute to the act of planning. We’ll also discuss some strategies to support these underlying skills. Check out our handout for more information
Planning Part B
Building on the specific constructs discussed in the last video, this video explores a more global strategy for supporting students’ planning skills called Goal-Plan-Do-Check. We hope that you learn how to implement and adapt this method for a variety of ages and classroom situations.
After watching this video, we hope you’ll have a better understanding of why time management is important and be able to recognize when students are struggling with time awareness and management. This module also includes information on the foundational skills that contribute to time management, as well as strategies to support students at various points in their development.
