Evan was born in San Antonio, Texas and grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He earned his B.S. in chemistry with an additional major in economics from Michigan State University in 2015. While in East Lansing, Evan worked on the synthesis of Cr(VI) nitrido complexes in Professor Aaron Odom’s lab. Evan then joined Professor Ian Tonks’ group at the University of Minnesota. There, he worked on exploring Ti and V-catalyzed nitrene transfer reactions and discovered an unusual “free carbene” coordination mode of reduced carbodiimide, while listening to The Weeknd on repeat. After completing his Ph.D. in organometallic chemistry in January 2021, he joined the Tolman lab and is currently studying sustainable polymerization reactions. In his spare time he enjoys exploring new areas, fantasy football, reading papers, and watching Community and Bojack Horseman.
