Appie Peterson

Graduate Student. Appie grew up in Godfrey, IL, but considers herself a St. Louis native. She attended the University of Missouri – Kansas City on full academic scholarship where she received her BS in Chemistry and BFA in Dance Performance. Her undergraduate research, completed under the guidance of Dr. Xiaobo Chen, focused on synthesizing nanomaterials to study photocatalytic hydrogen generation. Appie danced professionally with local Kansas City companies, and later with the San Diego Ballet. Her research in the Tolman lab, done in conjunction with the Center for Sustainable Polymers, focuses on structural and mechanistic studies of organometallic complexes which perform ring-opening polymerizations to produce sustainable plastics. Appie enjoys ballet, bike riding, and watching Netflix with her cat.
