Thomas Kannampallil, PhD, FAMIA is an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology and Computer Science. I am also a faculty affiliate at the Institute for Informatics at the Washington University School of Medicine in St Louis.

In my operational role, I am the Associate Chief Research Information Officer at the School of Medicine. I also serve as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Biomedical Informatics

My research interests are broadly in the areas of clinical decision support and clinical machine learning for improving clinical cognition and patient safety. My research is funded by the NLM, NIA, NIMH and AHRQ.

I was previously the Director of primary care informatics research at University of Illinois, and assistant director of the Center for Cognitive Studies in Medicine and Public Health at the New York Academy of Medicine. I was also a researcher at the National Center for Cognitive Informatics and Decision Making at University of Texas, and Beckman Institute at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
