Irfan Lodhi receives award at the 2019 Kern Lipid Conference

Irfan Lodhi, PhD

Irfan Lodhi, assistant professor of medicine is the recipient of the David L. Williams Lecture and Scholarship Award at this year’s Kern Lipid Conference. On August 14, he presented a lecture titled, “Peroxisomal Lipid Metabolism and the Control of Energy Homeostasis.” The 2019 Kern Lipid Conference was held in Vail, Colorado.

Also, John Dean, a PhD student and member of the Lodhi Lab, received the Early Career Investigator Travel Award at the conference.

The first Lipid Conference was organized by Fred Kern, Scott Grundy and Roger Davis in 1985 with a mission to organize an annual conference to promote science that relates to the broad areas of lipid, cholesterol, bile acid and lipoprotein metabolism and the pathobiologies associated with disordered lipid metabolism.

Irfan Lodhi received his PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the University of Michigan Medical School, where he studied signaling pathways involved in insulin-stimulated glucose transport in adipocytes under the mentorship of Dr. Alan Saltiel. In 2007, he joined Dr. Clay Semenkovich’s laboratory at Washington University School of Medicine as a postdoctoral research fellow to study lipid metabolism. Dr. Lodhi joined the faculty as an instructor in the Department of Medicine in 2011 and was appointed Assistant Professor of Medicine on the tenure track in 2014.
