Tribal-Academic Partnerships for Diabetes Research and Proposal Development

May 21, 2019

On May 21st, the WU-CDTR and National Congress of American Indians Policy Research Center hosted investigators for the Strengthening Tribal-Academic Partnership workshop. The day consisted of an interactive training using the Holding Spaces toolkit and grant proposal consultations.

The Holding Spaces toolkit consists of resources and strategies to conduct community based participatory research and build relationships with tribal communities. The event included 20 participants representing investigators from WU-CDTR, partner institutions, community-based organizations, and the Katheryn M. Buder Center for American Indian Studies.

In the afternoon, investigators were invited to apply these principles in a grant proposal development workshop where they received one-on-one consultations with WU-CDTR leadership.

Moving Research to Publication: Health Equity in Diabetes and Obesity Prevention and Treatment

October 5th, 2018

On October 5th, the WU-CDTR and Institute for Public Health hosted 30 investigators for the collaborative event, “Moving Research to Publication: Health Equity in Diabetes and Obesity Prevention and Treatment.” The goal of the day was to facilitate individual and collaborative publications among WU-CDTR investigators pursuing research in diabetes or obesity prevention. Writing groups formed around similar research interests and participants represented a variety of disciplines. All WU-CDTR partner institutions were represented, with participants attending from Washington University, University of Missouri School of Medicine, the Council on Black Health, and the National Congress of American Indians.

We look forward to supporting the collaborations initiated during the event and supporting our members as they work on their manuscripts.
