The QPR mission is to reduce suicidal behaviors and save lives by providing innovative, practical and proven suicide prevention training. The signs of crisis are all around us. We believe that quality education empowers all people, regardless of their background, to make a positive difference in the life of someone they know.
This free training is open to all Brown School students with dinner from Chipotle provided before the training begins.

Sound Meditation and Relaxation with Dr. Diana Parra-Perez

Sound is not only perceived through the ear, but also through vibrations in the body from sound waves that travel through the air. In this session we will use Himalayan singing bowls, a gong, chimes, and bells to promote a state of deep meditative relaxation.
You may experience this session in a seated meditation posture to let the sounds ground you in the present moment and support a meditative state, or laying down for a more restorative experience. It is perfectly normal and ok to fall asleep during these sessions, however, you are also free to keep your eyes open if this feels better for you.
Feel free to bring a yoga mat, pillows, blankets, an eye cover or pillow, anything that will support you in setting up a safe and restorative space for you. You are your own and best guide!
We will provide light grounding snacks and tea after the meditation.

Join us as we learn about the work of Brown School alumni committed to social change. Our first guest is Poli Rijos, a bilingual Licensed Clinical Social Worker and community engagement practitioner. Poli brings over 18 years of experience developing and overseeing partnerships and coalitions with non-profit agencies, educational, health, and civic institutions in the St. Louis region.
While serving as the Initiative Lead for the Gun Violence Initiative at the Institute for Public Health at Washington University, Poli coordinated the launch of the St. Louis area Hospital-based Violence Intervention Program (Life Outside of Violence) and the St. Louis Area Violence Prevention Commission (VPC). Learn more about her work and passion for the community and social justice.

Lack of paid leave also strains the already overstretched childcare system as families need care soon after birth and often can’t stay home with sick children. Losing HER Voice: Mental Health Implications of Abortion Restrictions

The Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade in June 2022 adversely impacts women on multiple levels. Research indicates loss of personal autonomy regarding reproductive choice can result in mental health problems and reduced well-being. However, these negative repercussions may be more detrimental for specific cohorts of women including members of marginalized communities as well as survivors of intimate partner violence and sexual assault. Learn about the various life circumstances, potential stressors and trauma exposure, and mental health issues these women often experience and how abortion denial may further complicate their health and welfare.
Unpacking Organizational Strategy
