Although we have submission deadlines for each issue, you can submit to Spires at any time.

We are currently accepting submissions for the Fall 2022 issue until a deadline is established. We are an intercollegiate magazine, so undergraduate students enrolled in any college or university in the United States are encouraged to submit. Keep in mind that we read and review all submissions anonymously.

Submit artwork and/or writing by emailing

We do accept simultaneous submissions, but if you need to retract your submission for any reason, please notify us immediately. Due to the quick turn-around for printing, we can only guarantee the withdrawal of your work from our magazine if contacted within three days of the send date of your acceptance notification.

For all submissions

In the body of your email, please include
the titles of all submissions,
your first and last name,
your year of graduation, and
the college or university you attend.

For creative writing

Put “Writing Submission” in the subject line. Send your submissions as attachments with a .docx Word document extension. Do not include your name or other identifying information in the attached documents themselves. Limit each written submission to 15 pages, double-spaced.

For art

Put “Art Submission” in the subject line. Include the medium of your work in the email body. Artwork should be sent as attachments with a .tiff file extension. If you want to submit a digital version of a visual work, please scan it at 600 dpi or higher (preferably) at 100% size and save it as a compressed TIF file, or use a vector based file format such as AI or EPS. If you are submitting a digital painting, please convert it to CMYK.

If we accept your work for publication, we reserve the non-exclusive right to your work’s physical and electronic distribution. However, you keep all rights to the work itself, and you are welcome to publish the same work elsewhere after it has been published by Spires.
