Congratulations to SMART Africa Global Fellow, Dr. Laura Gauer Bermudez, for receiving her PhD from the Columbia School of Social Work in 2019

Congratulations to SMART Africa Global Fellow, Dr. Laura Gauer Bermudez, for receiving her PhD from the Columbia School of Social Work in 2019. Her Doctoral dissertation, “The intersection of financial agency, sexual decision-making power, and HIV risk among adolescent girls and young women in Zambia” was published by Columbia University’s academic commons and contributes to the growing field of publications around economic strengthening and HIV prevention. In addition, Dr. Bermudez has published several articles over the last year in different journals, including Social Science and Medicine, Child Abuse and Neglect, and Prevention Science, among others. Her publications focus on a variety of topics such as poverty, economic strengthening, mental health, violence, HIV, and gender. Dr. Bermudez is currently the Director of Evidence and Learning at the Global Fund to End Modern Slavery where she leads the Fund’s Evidence for Action Framework. We congratulate Dr. Laura Gauer Bermudez for her accomplishments!
