Investigating and utilizing the relationship between street lights and crime in San Francisco


Members of the San Francisco (SF) government hypothesize that overhead street light outages may increase crime rates in the city. We have partnered with – an enterprise artificial intelligence company based in SF – to do volunteer work for the SF Government Fix It team to solve this critical city problem.

 Calculate weighted crime rate for SF neighborhoods with highest crime rate

Determine significance of the relationship between street light outages and crime

Utilize a traveling salesman method to optimize street light repair within each neighborhood

Explore operations research methods to prioritize street light repair by neighborhood
