Emily Maise, Treasurer

From covering collegiate squash for her undergrad’s student newspaper to seeing Ryan Helsley pitch an immaculate inning at Busch Stadium, Emily’s love for sports knows no bounds (though bias toward her hometown Cardinals, Blues, and soon-to-be St. Louis City SC is evident). Her experience as the sports editor of her college newspaper piqued her interest in sports and media law, while her 1L summer at the St. Louis City Treatment Court spurred an interest in labor and employment law. As Treasurer, she hopes to share engaging legal opportunities and resources in sports, entertainment, and the arts while keeping SELS’s budget in the green. In her free time, she is a devout reader of The Athletic and can be found making Renaissance paintings of dogs.

Sydney Everett, Secretary

Sydney Everett is a second-year law student from St. Louis, Missouri. She attended undergrad at Barnard College of Columbia University in New York, NY, where she studied political science and sociology. Prior to law school, she worked at FleishmanHillard working in  corporate reputation, executive communications, and crisis management. She also served as marketing and communications specialist for WashU’s Skandalaris Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

At WashU Law, Sydney is involved with SVPA, SELS, and WLC. She also serves as an admissions ambassador. During her 1L summer she worked at Fenwick and West in New York and Meta. Outside of law school she enjoys baking, laughing, reality tv, and cuddling her dog Coco.

Lauren Atherton, Community Service Chair

Lauren Atherton is a 1L from Jacksonville, Florida. She did her undergrad, as well as graduate school, at Florida State University, where she received a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Sport Management. During those programs, she was fortunate to take sports law classes, which is when she first became interested in that field. During her graduate program, she took a course solely focused on Title IX, and that is what inspired her to attend law school and pursue sports law. She is so excited to be the Community Service Chair of SELS this year! She is looking forward to providing students with opportunities to get involved and make connections with the St. Louis community!

TJ Powell, 1L Sports Representative

TJ Powell is excited to be your 1L Sports Rep. He has a strong background in sports as he was a collegiate athlete during his time in undergrad and for his MBA. He has a strong passion for athletics, especially the NCAA. His goal is to work to make that organization a better place for athletes and fans involved. As as 1L rep he plans to do his best in representing the ideas of our class and doing what he can to make this a great experience for every SELS member.

Skyler Dykes, 1L Arts & Entertainment Representative

Skyler Dykes is a first-year law student from Topeka, KS with interests in copyright and entertainment law. Before arriving at WashU, Skyler worked as a professional musician and arts administrator. As an administrator, she focused her attention on arts education and cultural advocacy, serving as a Program Manager at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, a summer music intensive for high school students, and as Interim Executive Director of Nebraskans for the Arts. Her passions for cultural advocacy and serving working artists continue to shape her legal interests, and she is excited to further her exploration of arts-related legal issues through involvement in SELS. In St. Louis, Skyler is pursuing a master’s degree in Musicology, alongside her JD, and she occasionally writes program notes for the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. In her free time, she enjoys antique shopping, attending concerts, and hosting dinner parties for her friends!
