Moiyattu Banya is a fourth year Ph.D. Candidate at New York University (NYU) Silver School of Social Work. Moiyattu’s interests are in global mental health, mixed-methods and community-based participatory research in social work and public health. Primarily she is interested in adolescent and young adult mental health, supporting communities that have a history of trauma and gender-based violence, and the implementation of community level and culturally relevant interventions that foster and nurture mental health and wellbeing of girls and young women in Africa. Moiyattu holds a MSW from Columbia University School of Social Work. She completed her undergraduate degree in Public Health at Rutgers University. Moiyattu currently works as a graduate research assistant with the Youth and Young Adult Mental Health Group at NYU Silver School of Social Work.
