Dr. Kyere is an Assistant Professor of Social Work and Adjunct Professor of Africana Studies at Indiana University. Dr. Kyere’s research seeks to examine and identify (1) how inequities are reproduced through the persistence of racism and its resulting contributions to educational, health, and mental health disparities that affect the overall wellbeing of persons of African descent and (2) culturally and racially innovative ways to support the education and health of the youth of African descent, while mitigating the effects of racism. Dr. Kyere is a transdisciplinary scholar and draws on social science and humanities to integrate historical data with social science research methods in search of innovative ways to structural racism and associated negative health, mental health, and educational impacts on the youth and young adults of African descent. His work explores coping, adaptive, and transformative capacities of African descent throughout history to resist their subordination and thrive to develop healthy resilient models toward both individual and community healing and structural changes to holistically support youth and young adults of the persons of African descent’s health, mental health, and education. Dr. Kyere earned his PhD at the University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work.
