Hayley received her B.A. in cognitive neuroscience with minors in linguistics and anthropology from Washington University in St. Louis.  She is currently a graduate student in the Clinical Neuropsychology Lab at the University of Missouri.  Her research interests include using imaging techniques to investigate developmental and cognitive processes.

Kristina received her PhD in Clinical Psychology at the University of Memphis.  She both completed her internship and obtained a T32 fellowship position at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.  She will be working in this position for the next 2 years, with a focus on obesity.

Rochelle is currently a User Experience Researcher at Google. She graduated with a PhD in Psychology from Rice University in 2011.

Dina graduated from Washington University in 2014 and NYU medical school in 2018.  She is now a resident in neurology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

Heather completed her PhD in psychology at Washington University in 2009. She is currently the Director of Deaf Education Studies in the Audiology and Communication Sciences Program at the Washington University School of Medicine. Her research interests include language and literacy development in children with cochlear implants.

Shoko Otake received a BA from Washington University in 2011 and an MA in 2013. Her research dealt with writing and spelling in young children, including their ability to distinguish writing from drawing.

Mackenzie Phillips

Mackenzie graduated May 2019 with degrees in PNP and Spanish, and a minor in Speech and Hearing Sciences. She is currently at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine pursuing her master’s in Speech-Language Pathology.  As of right now, she is interested in both child and adult populations and is excited about her clinical placements, which will help her decide where and with whom she wants to work.

Dr. Robins graduated from Washington University in 2012 and is an assistant professor in the Philosophy Department at the University of Kansas. She most recently served as an assistant professor at University of Texas at El Paso. Her research is at the intersection of philosophy and psychology with interest in memory, implicit learning, and tacit knowledge.

Lan gruduated with her doctorate in 2018. Her dissertation was on children’s knowledge of digram frequency and graphotactic awareness as prephonological spellers. She is currently living in Toronto, Canada.

Originally from the suburbs of Boston, MA, Adina is a Junior majoring in Psychological & Brain Sciences with a second major in Educational Studies. Outside of class, she is a tour guide and tutors in a local elementary school. She is very curious about the processes of language learning and acquisition, and has loved the opportunity to be involved in researching that topic.

Kendall (Biard) Speer graduated in May 2020 with a degree in Psychological and Brain Sciences and minors in Spanish and Speech and Hearing Sciences. She is currently working as a Registered Behavior Technician at a clinic for children with autism spectrum disorder and plans to pursue a masters in speech-language pathology.

Molly Farry-Thorn

Molly completed her PhD in 2019. She is currently a postdoctoral research associate in the Language & Cognitive Neuroscience Lab at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. She is working on projects that will communicate the findings of reading research to the public – including teachers, parents, and policymakers.

Jayde Homer, PhD

Jayde completed her PhD in December 2023, and she now works as a Statistical Data Analyst for the Office of Graduate Studies at Washington University in St. Louis. She is from Phoenix, New York, and completed her bachelors at the University of Rochester in Linguistics and Brain & Cognitive Science. Before joining the Reading and Language Lab, she was the lab manager of the Infant Studies Lab at the University of Notre Dame. Her research focused on the patterns preschool and kindergarteners’ use in their early writing, especially before they are “good” spellers.
