Welcome to the Ramanathan Lab!

We are experimentalists who live at the intersection of astrophysics and particle physics, primarily focused on building tools to potentially detect dark matter – a mysterious missing mass that seems to permeate our universe. We are particularly interested in experiments that use quantum phenomena and superconducting instrumentation to probe interactions that deposit very small amounts of energy, as little as a few meV. We use equipment like dilution refrigerators, as seen in the picture on the right, to get down to the fractions of a degree above absolute zero to get our detectors to work.
