War and Rape in Northern Ethiopia: A Dialogue About Healing and Justice is a discussion focused on the atrocities committed in northern Ethiopia during the recent regional war with a view to advancing healing and the fight to obtain justice for its victims.

Speakers include the Honorable Filsan Abdellahi Abdi, Erin Farrell Rosenberg, and Hayelom Kebede Mekonen, PhD. They will share their insights on the impact of the war, the use of rape as a weapon of war, the psychological trauma faced by survivors, and the need for justice and healing even after the implementation of a fragile peace agreement. This discussion will be moderated by L. Lewis Wall, DPhil, MD, and Kim Thuy Seelinger, JD.

Following the discussion, attendees will have the opportunity to meet and converse with the speakers and moderators during a dinner reception.

Speakers

Hon. Abdellahi Abdi is the former Minister for Women, Children and Youth of Ethiopia. She resigned from the Abiy government due to its censorship of her reports of government involvement in conflict-related sexual violence.

Kebede Mekonen, PhD, is the former head of Ayder Comprehensive Specialized Hospital in Tigray and provided publicity and mobilized medical support for thousands of survivors of this conflict during a devastating humanitarian blockade imposed by the Abiy government.

Erin Farrell Rosenberg is a visiting scholar at the Urban Morgan Institute for Human Rights at the University of Cincinnati College of Law. Ms. Farrell Rosenberg has worked extensively in international criminal law, working at the International Criminal Tribunal for the formal Yugoslavia then moving on to the International Criminal Court.
