Information for Applicants

ProSPER will offer an $800 travel stipend for two Washington University graduate or professional students to attend a science policy or science communication workshop or conference of their choice during the Spring Semester of 2020. The award may be used towards registration fees, travel, food, and lodging for the event.

To qualify, applicants must be:

  1. Graduate or professional students in a STEM or public policy related program at Washington University
  2. In good academic standing and should be enrolled at WashU throughout the next calendar year at the time of application
  3. Interested in a career in science policy or science communication and should be able to describe how this award would support their career goals
  4. Prepared to present their experience to ProSPER in the form of a blog post OR a presentation at a monthly meeting

NOTE: Following announcement of the awards, applicants are responsible for identifying and registering for a relevant event that they wish to attend. Previous award recipients attended meetings such as the AAAS annual meeting, the AAAS Forum on Science & Technology Policy, and Capitol Hill or Congressional Visit Days put on by scientific societies. All events must be approved by both ProSPER officers and The Graduate School. Failure to register for and attend an approved event will result in forfeiture of award. Events which occur before June 1st 2020 are be preferable to ensure expenses are submitted before the end of our yearly budget, but we may be able to accommodate events which occur the summer of 2020 if event expenses (i.e. registration, travel, lodging, etc.) can be made prior to June 1st.
