PreMIER is a matchmaking service designed to help clinicians and basic scientists identify experimental model systems and patient populations to further our understanding of human health and disease.

The central unit of PreMIER is a consultation service made up of WUSTL experts who will advise on:

  1. The suitability of a given human variant for further study in a model system.
  2. The best model system in which pursue functional studies, taking into account existing core facilities and other resources
  3. Expertise and resource matchmaking.
    1. For clinicians, who at WUSTL or in the larger scientific community is an expert on this gene/disease/biological process?
    2. For basic scientists, who at WUSTL sees patients who might inform and/or benefit from fundamental studies

To explore our matchmaking services, please contact the expert panel.

The PreMIER Process

  1. Submit your variant/case, using the online form.
  2. PreMIER bioinformaticians will evaluate your variant (human genetics databases, model organism databases, etc) (1-2 weeks).
  3. Model organism and human cellular models experts will determine the suitability of modeling your variant in their system. Is the gene/residue conserved? Have there been publications that support/reject this variant being pathogenic? (2-3 weeks).
  4. Expert panel meeting (4th Monday of the month at 2pm). You will briefly present your clinical case to the experts, who will then provide their recommendations.
