Cyanobacteria are photosynthetic bacteria that show great potential for biofuels and biochemicals production. The model cyanobacterium, Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803, is used as a platform for metabolic engineering to produce isoprenoids, which can be used as alternative drop-in fuels and precursors to high-value chemicals.
