Application process

Apply through the ERAS system.

We have two residency tracks: Clinical Residency Program and the Physician-Scientist Training Program. Application procedures are separate for these tracks. Please apply to either or both. 


Deadlines

Our deadline for receiving applications this year is Friday, October 4, 2019. Please make sure your application is COMPLETE. Everything we need from you should be in your ERAS application for the initial review.


Interviews

Interviewers:

Many members of the clinical faculty will be interviewing candidates.

Interview day timeline

Friday evening mixer (optional event) from 6:30pm to 8:30pm on the night before interview day provides an opportunity for applicants to meet residents in a less formal setting.

Saturday Interview Day begins at 7am and ends approximately 5pm. A catered breakfast will be available at 6:30 am and a catered lunch will be provided for applicants, faculty and residents.

At 7am, applicants will be welcomed by Department Chair Craig Buchman, MD and receive a Training Program Overview by Residency Program Director Judith Lieu, MD, MSPH along with a few senior residents. Then applicants will have multiple brief interviews with faculty and senior residents, a tour of the facilities (hospitals, research labs and surgical simulation lab) as well as a tour of the city.

Interview days include exciting tours of St. Louis !

  • Clinical applicants will interview in the morning and tour in the afternoon
  • Research applicants will tour in the morning and interview in the afternoon

Accommodations

The hotel located closest to Washington University School of Medicine and Barnes-Jewish Hospital is The Parkway Hotel, which is actually linked by enclosed walkway to the School of Medicine. It is located close to the Central West End Metrolink stop. For more information about The Parkway and other nearby hotels, please see Lodging list (bottom of this page). Note: When making your reservation, be sure to ask for the special WashU rate!

Directions, Parking & Transportation

Barnes-Jewish Hospital is located within the Washington University Medical Center in the “Central West End” of St. Louis. The two major intersections are U.S. Highway 40 (Interstate 64) and Kingshighway. Take the Kingshighway North exit; turn right on Barnes-Jewish Hospital Plaza. The Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery office is located on the 9th floor of the McMillan building (517 S Euclid). See #6 on the Washington University Medical Center map.

Metrolink is a rail service that runs from the airport area to our downtown area, which has various stops along the way. The cost is $3 for a 2-hour pass and $7.50 for an all day pass. Our stop would be Central West End station. Cross the other side of Euclid and continue left (South), to the McMillan Hospital Building entrance. Take the double elevators to 9th floor and our office is located at the John B. Shapleigh Memorial Library, Suite 9916 and ask for Maria Harrington.

Parking: If you are driving, you may use: Barnes-Jewish Hospital South Garage on the Washington University Medical Center map. We are unable to offer parking validation.
