Meet Jia Geng!
I am Jia Geng, from Xi’an, the historical and cultural center of China. It is famed for its treasures, including the awe-inspiring Terracotta Warriors and the majestic Ancient City Wall.
During my college years, I was attracted by supply chain management and realized that most case studies centered on remarkable American companies. This realization ignited a deep passion within me and led me to the United States, where I chose to pursue an advanced education in supply chain management at Olin.
What truly fascinates me in this field is uncovering the intricate tapestry of truths hidden within its complex web. These truths are often embodied in the smallest of details but guide the most ambitious actions. I’m drawn to the constant quest for improvement in the supply chain, firmly believing that in the business world, there may not be a single “best” way, but there’s always a “better” way.
In my view, supply chains demand a substantial amount of hands-on involvement. My role involves the practical application of the theoretical knowledge I acquired during my academic journey. It’s about bridging the gap between theory and real-world operations, ultimately contributing to the dynamic realm of supply chain management.
As I continue my journey of personal and professional growth, the Weston Career Center serves as an indispensable guiding force, pointing me towards a promising future. The invaluable support and insights provided by the career coaches have been instrumental in demystifying the complexities of the U.S. job market, turning what was once uncertainty into well-defined steppingstones to success.
Thanks to the invaluable assistance from the WCC, I embarked on an enriching internship experience at Fastenal this summer. Within this role, I assumed a multifaceted set of responsibilities. These included effectively conveying the value of inventory management solutions to foster partnerships, proficiently managing inventory, overseeing order placement and fulfillment, as well as handling inventory reception and shipment. Additionally, I took charge of various procurement functions, encompassing tasks such as estimating and quoting prices, along with sourcing products.
Meanwhile, I’ve found solace on the basketball court. The rhythmic bounce of the ball serves as a cathartic release, momentarily eclipsing the stresses of life as I aim for that basket. Beyond the physical aspect, basketball has gifted me vibrant friendships, and each game offers a unique chance to learn, grow, and refine my skills through dynamic interactions with fellow enthusiasts.
My journey has revealed an important epiphany – the delicate balance among the pursuit of professional opportunities, sports, and daily life. These elements are interconnected, each one influencing the others in profound ways. Instead of fixating on a single aspect, my philosophy encourages a holistic embrace of life’s multifaceted dimensions.
These experiences underpin my short but impactful Master’s degree journey, and I am deeply thankful for the guidance and support of my parents, teachers and friends.
This diverse array of experiences further strengthens my belief in the multitude of opportunities that lie ahead, illuminating the path to my future endeavors.
