Amatya Agarwal, President
Hello WashU community 👋! I’m Amatya, a 2Y MBA student, born in the desert, currently brewing in St Louis. I’m excited to share some fun facts about me.
I started my career studying engineering in India, just like 98.5% of my friends. Still, after my study abroad in Singapore, I witnessed the power of business + technology and how it drove a backwater island to one of the wealthiest countries in the world. After dipping my toes in consulting with internships at EY and PwC, I found my passion: helping others find the ‘aha’ moment. I’ve helped my clients and teams succeed using my problem-solving and analytics skills. Earlier this year, I contributed to our local soccer club, CITY SC’s 5-year strategy, as part of Olin’s case competition – which I highly recommend joining!
My high school’s motto of “service before self” has stayed with me, be it as an MBA peer coach or my work as a student mental well-being leader with CDI, I’m fueled by seeing others succeed. As the president of the Olin India club, I’m working toward promoting the Indian culture and making Indian students feel at-home in Olin, as a side, we throw the best Diwali parties.
When I’m not pouring over case studies or making PowerPoint presentations, I’m either doing stand-up, planning a hike, or hitting the golf range. I like to believe I’m getting better at golf, but as my classmate and golf coach Al says ”Golf is a journey. Yours just happens to involve a lot of scenic detours”. Some of my favorite hiking adventures have been in East Asia, Mt Hallasan in Korea, and Yangmingshan in Taiwan.
During my summer internship with Kohler, I was able to apply my learnings from the classroom to the real world – I helped build a GenAI chatbot that now helps other associates, get instant access to insights and data. With 5 months remaining in my Olin journey, I’m eager to give back to the community and grow as a leader.
Thank you for reading, and before you leave, I’d like to share some profound advice: Don’t take life too seriously. It’s not like anyone gets out alive anyway.
