Nancy Childrey
Hi, everyone!
My name is Nancy Childrey and I am an SMP academic advisor advising business analytics students in Fin Tech and Accounting Analytics. I was born and raised in St. Louis (Hazelwood West-Go Wildcats!). I was a Triple Billiken at Saint Louis University (SLU), getting all of my degrees there! I even spent the first 14 years of my career in various advisor roles at SLU. I joined the wonderful WashU GPO team in July 2022 and have enjoyed learning a new school and system.
Some fun facts about me:
- I have one younger brother and we are 13 years apart.
- I have a high pain tolerance – I accidentally had my second baby at home.
- I come from a family of restaurant entrepreneurs. My parents currently own a small restaurant in North County, my uncle and aunt own a restaurant in Jefferson City, and my grandparents owned a noodle restaurant in their home country in Laos before immigrating to the United States. Another aunt owned a restaurant in San Francisco for a time and then sold it. One of my cousins opened a restaurant in China but was forced to return home when the pandemic hit. My 13-year-old daughter owns a bakery business with her friend. The entrepreneurial spirit has skipped a generation!
- I’m an American-born Laotian Chinese. A lot of food I grew up eating is a combination of Southern Chinese cuisines and Laotian foods (eating sticky rice from a bamboo basket with my hands is my favorite way to eat rice)!
- I teach an online aviation course to students majoring in aviation management!
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, having meals with friends, and traveling as much as time (and money) allows.
