Seth Carnahan, Associate Professor of Strategy
“Seth is a great Professor! I have taken two of his classes and they have both been classes that I enjoyed very much. His teaching style is very approachable and informative. He is good about fostering conversation, and facilitating the learning process.” Liz Wilson, PMBA
“Seth’s teaching was really impactful for me. As one of the first professors I took in business school, he upheld the bar that our summer professors set for us and continued to push us to think more deeply about cases and issues we discussed in class. He did a great job of balancing the ability to teach those of us who had not come from a business background while also pushing those who have.” Buddy Foster, MBA 2024
A little about Seth-
When I am not working, I like spending time with my family, including my wife, MaryJane, our two-year-old son, Enzo, and our one-month-old son, Laurie. I also love to exercise, including running, lifting weights, and doing yoga.
My spouse, MaryJane, is a professor in the accounting department at Olin. We were set up by friends in grad school because they knew we were perfect for each other but I was too afraid to ask her out!
My parents are from Saint Louis and met at Kirkwood High School in the 1970s. My mom’s family has lived near Kirkwood since immigrating here in the 1840s. As far as I know, though, I am not related to the Carnahan political family.
I grew up in Memphis, but my parents moved back to Saint Louis when I was in college. I worked at the UPS Store in Richmond Heights for several summers, serving many WashU students. I would often help them ship their stuff home for summer and winter breaks.
We have two cats. We got one of them in Montreal, and we named her Poutine after the local delicacy. The other is named Mo, because we got her in Missouri!
“I enjoyed every bit of Seth’s class. I admire his passion for teaching and how he tries to get everyone involved. My favorite part of the class is the ice breaker where he asks “How are you feeling today?” Olamide Omotosho, MBA 2024
“I really enjoyed Professor Carnahan’s Intro to Management and Strategy class as it helped me develop the ability to think strategically. I learned how to analyze complex business problems and develop effective solutions. This skill is highly valued in the business world, and it can help any student make better decisions in their career. I also gained an understanding of the internal and external factors that impact a business including market trends, industry analysis, competitor analysis, and financial analysis. Having this knowledge helps me make value-based data-driven decisions and will benefit any company I choose to work at in the future.” Cherise Brookes, MBA 2024
