Seth Matteson
Hi everyone! My name is Seth Matteson and I may be a new face for you here at Olin! I’m an Assistant Dean for the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion and the Director of Student Engagement. I’m very excited to be working on such an excellent team! I’m coming to WashU from Maryville University where I served as a Life Coach for six years. Through that position, I chaired a committee for a campus-wide multicultural event called the Tunnel of Consciousness and worked closely with our Office of Study Abroad to help prepare students, faculty, and Life Coaches for their study abroad experiences. Prior to Maryville, I worked at Indiana State University for 3 years as an Academic Advisor, specifically working with students who were Pre-Health majors.
Speaking of Indiana State, that’s my alma mater! I earned both a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master of Science in Human Resource Development in Higher Education and Industry through ISU before I joined the staff. I also hold a Doctor of Education in Higher Education Leadership and am working on completing a Master of Arts in Strategic Communication & Leadership, both through Maryville University. So, as you can see, I’m truly a life long learner.
Outside of professional life and academics, I originally hale from a tiny town in eastern Illinois just west of the Indiana border (I had 28 people in my high school graduating class and no, it wasn’t a private school)! I have lived in St. Louis for the past 6 years and have finally settled in the Fox Park neighborhood with my fiancé, John, and our one-year old Wheaten Terrier, Rory. Before you ask, the big day is October 12, 2024! We enjoy spending time outdoors, hiking, exploring the city, traveling domestically and abroad, catching up with our friends, enjoying arch-views from our rooftop deck, and playing video games. My favorite types of games are simulation games like Cities Skyline and The Sims, but I’ve recently gotten into some action games like Hogwarts: Legacy and Spider-Man (we recently got a PS5).
Thanks to all again for such a warm welcome here at Olin—I hope to make connections with all of you in the near future!
