Peter Boumgarden

“I am always happy to sing praises for Peter. Peter is a phenomenal educator – I took Talent Analytics with him this last Spring, and he did a stupendous job of bringing in both the 30,000-foot view of this complicated and multi-faceted topic, while also including opportunities to get into the granular and nitty-gritty of the topic. His feedback is direct, honest, and supportive, and I am consistently impressed (and touched) that his feedback notes frequently directly tie back to my personal and professional interests. His courses are active, engaging, and always entertaining. I have nothing but the best to say about Dr. Pete. Big fan of Peter if you can’t tell. I took Talent Analytics because I thought it might relate somewhat to my internship with Chapman & Co., and it has been and then some.” Nigel Hoffman, MBA 2024

“Peter has a pulse on local and international companies through the CELect programs which makes him a valuable asset at Washington University.”   Jon Frick, PMBA 53

“To me, the most appealing trait of Peter is his balancing act. The man has at least 10 years on me and is in better shape or form than I’ve ever been. Simultaneous to his academic and professional pursuits, I’m also excited about his contributions in learnings from his expertise in family-owned businesses.” Shashwat Anand, MBA 2024

Peter Boumgarden is the Koch Professor of Practice for Family Enterprise and the Director of the Koch Center for Family Enterprise. Prior to his time at Olin, Peter was a professor at Hope College in Holland, Michigan. Peter’s academic research looks at issues of private enterprise and the crafting of strategies at the intersection of purpose and performance. He also spends a good bit of time with company leaders consulting in these and related areas.

Outside of Olin, Peter can be found with his family – a wife Kelley, and two sons, Fitz (2.5 years) and Archer (6 months). Peter is an avid runner (and member of the Olin running community) and is currently trying to get his dog under a 5-minute mile. They just ran 5:06 at St. Louis’ recent Mackland Mile, but neither is getting younger anytime soon

“I truly appreciated Peter’s unwavering commitment to my growth and development as a consultant. Peter provided real-life anecdotes, best practices, and industry trends that gave me a comprehensive perspective and solid platform that aided me during my client engagement. He also provided constructive feedback and insightful advice that helped me refine my consulting approach and enhanced my overall problem-solving abilities. The class provided a bridge between classroom learning and the practical application of consulting principles, which allowed me to witness the direct impact of my work.” John Badgett, MBA 2024

“I was enrolled at that time in one of the most challenging classes of my time at Olin, working directly under the tutelage of Professor Peter Boumgarden.  Our team relied heavily on Peter’s expertise, and he proved especially during challenging times what all he was made of.  Beyond being a creative problem solver and master communicator, Peter is a natural joiner, making everyone he meets feel known, all while helping them expand their network and discover their professional passions.  At his foundation, he is just one heck of a nice guy and it has been my privilege to get to know Peter. I look forward to keeping in touch with him in the future.”  Elle Berger, MBA 2023
