Beyond academics, my multicultural background significantly shapes my perspective. Having been born in China, moved to Argentina at the age of 11, and now studying in the U.S. for six years, I embrace cultural differences. This global outlook informs my worldview and fuels my desire to make a positive impact in the world.
Why you chose Olin?
- I chose Olin because it is a well-established university known for its expertise in marketing. I am eager to gain a deeper and more analytically oriented understanding of marketing, and Olin’s reputation in this field aligns with my goals. The school also offers robust career services, which I believe will provide valuable support in shaping my professional path.
Your job or plans after graduation
- After graduation, my plan is to return to Argentina. I intend to join a medium-sized startup and take on a leadership role in the marketing department, overseeing a team of around 10 people. My primary focus will be on expanding the company’s online presence. (this might be subject to change)
Your hometown
- I hail from Shenzhen, China, where I was born. However, I spent seven years studying in Buenos Aires, Argentina, making it a significant part of my identity and experiences.

Do you prefer to be introduced as Elena or Jianxun?
- I would prefer to be introduced as Jianxun Elena Yang. Both names hold significance for me; Jianxun is used in China, and Elena is the name I go by since my time in Argentina. Combining them reflects my identity and the diverse experiences that have shaped me.
