“I loved to go for a walk in the forest park in the late afternoon. Along the way, I walked in the shade of trees and there were many golfers and joggers in the park. As long as I was tired, I will rest on the lawn in front of the Art Museum, watching the sunset and the fountain. That was one of the best experiences I had in St. Louis.” Yin Chen, GMF 2023

“1. Blueberry Hill Bar. I passed by this bar every day on my way to school, and I heard it was a bar that a writer alumnus used to come frequently. On the day of graduation, we were here to say bye to our friends who were the first to leave. The waitress at the bar was a WashU student and we had a great conversation. Highly recommend the fish fry combo!
2. Water lantern festival. There are a lot of local events in St. Louis, with musical performances and such almost every week. The Water Lantern Festival is held at the end of June and is an event where people make their own water lanterns to put in the river and make a wish. It was very beautiful and impressive!
3. Forest Park. On the first day, I came to St. Louis, I went to Forest Park near the school, and then I often came here for a walk. Forest Park is very large, and the scenery here is really good. My favorite part in Forest Park is the large lawn and lake in front of the art museum, sitting here for the whole afternoon is what I enjoyed the most.” Yanhua Li, GMF 2023

“My favorite place is the zoo, where I can see seals swimming happily and cute groundhogs eating vegetables at a very close distance. That’s a very relaxing activity for me.” Zherui Zhang, GMF 2023

“Experience: Water Lantern Festival: Highly recommend! You can draw a water lantern and then put it in the lake to make a wish. If the wind is not so big, then the lanterns in the lake are “blinking”, and they are really beautiful. It has a feeling of the Kongming lantern, but they are set free in the lake. It’s great when the sun is setting or when it’s a little darker! If you want to participate, we strongly recommend bringing your own food and a picnic mat (and an extra colored marker). It’s a great place to take photos, make wishes, and socialize! You could go in the afternoon and have a picnic there. The only shortcoming is it’s a little bit far, so you need to plan ahead if you’re taking a taxi.”
“Place: Forest Park is very recommended, it is close to the school, the scenery is beautiful, and it is suitable for walking or jogging. There are coffee shops and sandwich shops nearby, you can have brunch and then have a nice walk. The St. Louis Zoo is great too! Lots of animals, lovely surroundings, they even have penguins! It is recommended that you be careful of heat stroke and remember to protect yourself from the sun. (Remember to put on the sunblock cream). Yiling Hou, GMF 2023
