Olin Women in Business (OWIB) New Year, New Leadership
Co-Presidents Oyeyemi Sonubi and Gloria Wiredu
My name is Oyeyemi, and I am a first-year MBA student. I am from Nigeria, where I was the eldest and only daughter among three siblings. Ever curious, I’ve always been drawn to learning about diverse subjects. This thirst for knowledge led me to study international relations in my undergraduate program, qualified as a chartered accountant, and eventually worked as a marketing manager in the financial services industry in Nigeria.
I am the co-president of Olin Women in Business (OWIB) and a member of the WashU Olin Graduate Business Student Association’s Judiciary Counsel. My aim with OWIB is to create a supportive environment where every woman feels valued and interconnected. OWIB’s primary mission is to promote and advocate for all female graduate students at Olin Business School through various initiatives such as peer mentoring, speaker events, and highlighting the achievements of OWIB alumnae. These efforts will enhance our members’ and allies’ professional and personal growth.
When I’m not busy with my MBA responsibilities, I indulge my love for reading, whether fiction or non-fiction. Despite a fear of heights, I’ve recently begun challenging myself with activities like cable car rides, Ferris wheels, and helicopter tours.
Whenever I face a challenging situation, I recall my parents’ advice always to try because the worst outcome could be a ‘No,’ but without trying, I’d never discover if the answer could be ‘Yes.’
A fun fact about me: Not only do I enjoy baking cakes, but I have also baked my wedding cakes and crafted wedding cakes for others. Additionally, I’m a hiking enthusiast, so don’t hesitate to include me in your hiking adventures! I’d love to join you.
Hi there! I’m Gloria Wiredu, and I’m originally from Ghana, West Africa. From a young age, I’ve been driven by a passion to solve problems and assist others, particularly in times of vulnerability. This led me to pursue a career in Medicine, graduating from the University of Ghana School of Medicine and Dentistry.
After practicing as a physician for nearly three years, I decided to pursue an MBA to broaden my impact beyond healthcare. I am the proud founder of Jewels of Bethel, an organization dedicated to empowering young women through leadership and personal development.
Here at Olin, I am the Co-President of the Olin Women in Business and Olin Healthcare Clubs, as well as the Vice-President of Events for the Olin Christian Business Fellowship and Olin African Business Clubs!
Outside of my professional and academic lives, I love organizing events – a passion that led me to earn a certification in Event Planning and Management. So, if you need someone to bring your next event to life, look no further!
I am a family woman, happily married to Dr. Daniel Appiah, and together, we have two wonderful kids, Diane and Daniel (Jnr).
