Deborah Udoma Nwankwo

Growing up as the third of eight kids in a Nigerian household is like surviving a beautifully chaotic circus act. Laughter, spices, and enough sibling rivalry to fuel a telenovela. That’s where I learned to juggle responsibilities and dreams like a pro. Following in my mom’s footsteps, I majored in Accounting at MOUAU which led me to seek a position with KPMG in Nigeria where I worked for over 3 years as a Forensic consultant, helping clients prevent, detect, and find solutions to fraud-related cases.

My parents also instilled in me the Ibo entrepreneurial spirit that helped me found four small-scale businesses. Notable of these is a non-profit I co-founded called “Encouragement of the Girl Child Initiative (EGCI) which mentored and helped girls who were sexual assault survivors find their voices. With the support of the Abia state government, we were able to raise funds for a sexual harassment helpline.

*Fun facts* I am very adventurous and enjoy the thoughts that come with creative processes, so you’ll find me traveling, swimming in large bodies of water, designing graphics for events, starting (and sometimes never finishing) DIY projects, reading African romantic comedy and cooking (especially cooking). I am currently seriously considering getting a dog and can’t wait to see what that world holds for me.
