Federal Loan Process for U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents

  1. Please complete the The 2024-2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at https://studentaid.gov/, using school code 002520. This application will cover Summer 2024, Fall 2024, Spring 2025 semesters.
  2. After the federal loan offer is processed, Olin Financial Services will email a confirmation and you can proceed with the required next steps. You will need to “accept” (or decrease) the loans online at Net Partner  (If you need help determining the precise amount needed, please email us for assistance.)
    • Login to Net Partner with your WUSTL key and password.
    • Select Documents & Messages under the Menu tab in the upper left hand corner. Make sure the current Award Year is selected in the upper right hand corner of the screen.
    • Complete all steps listed.

Entering Students and First-Time Direct Loan Borrowers:

Complete:

  • Loan Entrance Counseling.
  • Subsidized/Unsubsidized Master Promissory Note.
  • Graduate PLUS Master Promissory Note (if awarded).
  • Graduate PLUS Loan Application (credit check required).

Note: It can take 2-3 business days for Washington University to receive confirmation of completed loan counseling, promissory notes, or Graduate PLUS loan application.

Continuing Students

  • Renew the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA): https://studentaid.gov/
  • Complete the Graduate PLUS Loan Application (updated credit check required each academic year).
  • “Accept” (or decrease) your loan offer via https://netpartner.wustl.edu/

Helpful Hints:

  1. Setup direct deposit with WashU Student Accounts if you are borrowing loans to cover any living expenses: https://financialservices.wustl.edu/student-accounts/student-refunds/
  2. Submit the Title IV Authorization Form https://financialservices.wustl.edu/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Title-IV.pdf  to student.accounting@wustl.edu. This form authorizes the university to apply student loan funds to non-mandatory charges such as Bear Bucks, course packet fees, and parking permits.
