Matthew Nielsen, MD, MS, FACS

Matthew Nielsen, MD, MS, FACS is Director of Urologic Oncology at the University of North Carolina Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, where he is an Associate Professor of Urology and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Epidemiology and Health Policy & Management. In addition, he holds an appointment as a Clinical Investigator at the Center for Health Research at Kaiser Permanente Northwest (CHR-KPNW), in the NCI-supported HMO Cancer Research Network. Dr. Nielsen’s research program in decision making and cancer care quality dovetails with his active clinical practice focused in bladder and prostate cancer. His MT-DIRC project will focus on the development of a Type II Hybrid Implementation-Effectiveness trial of risk stratified surveillance for early stage bladder cancer, building on the preliminary work in an NCI-funded R21 proposal on which he is co-PI with Carmit McMullen, PhD at CHR-KPNW.
