Carolyn J. Heckman, PhD

Dr. Heckman is currently an Associate Professor in the Population Science Division at Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey in New Brunswick and is a licensed clinical health psychologist. She earned her doctorate in Counseling Psychology from the University of Iowa and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Health Psychology and Addictions at Virginia Commonwealth University. Most of her work focuses on skin cancer prevention and detection. Her other interests include online interventions and tobacco use and cessation. She has completed NCI R01, K07, R21, and R03 grant projects. Dr. Heckman’s current R01 focuses on D&I of a tailored interactive internet intervention to reduce cancer risk behaviors in young adults.
