Lunar Meteorite: Northwest Africa 14202
from The Meteoritical Bulletin, No. 110 Northwest Africa 14202 (NWA 14202)(Northwestern Africa) Lunar meteorite (feldspathic breccia) History: Purchased by Geologist Juan Avilés Poblador in 2021 from Said Yousfi in Morocco. Physical characteristics: Single stone with minor fusion crust. Petrography: (D. Sheikh, Cascadia) Specimen is a breccia composed predominantly of sub-angular to sub-rounded anorthositic clasts (up to ~1 cm), and minor poikilitic, porphyritic, and troctolitic clasts, and isolated mineral fragments, set within a fine-grained matrix containing areas of crystalline impact melt and vesicles. Classification: Lunar (feldspathic breccia). Specimens: 6.8 grams and a thin section at Cascadia; main mass with Juan Avilés Poblador. |
