Sample Categorical Schedule & Rotations by PGY Year

PGY1

During the first year of training, you will serve as patients’ primary physician under the supervision of an upper-level resident and attending physician.

Rotations typically include:

  • Inpatient medicine at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and the St. Louis VA Medical Center
  • Inpatient session in cardiology, MICU and CCU services
  • Night float rotations
  • Experience with the procedure team
  • Elective experiences in internal medicine subspecialties
  • Reading week with jeopardy call
  • Three weeks of vacation

PGY2 & PGY3

As an upper level resident, you will play an important management and teaching role at the hospital. Residents undergo teaching seminars to facilitate the transition from internship into residency.

Rotations typically include:

  • Inpatient medicine at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and the St. Louis VA Medical Center
    Continuity clinic
  • Experiences in MICU and CCU services and emergency medicine
  • Night float rotations
  • Elective experiences in internal medicine subspecialties
  • Reading week with jeopardy call
  • Three weeks of vacation
