Call for Volunteers: Sustainable Housing & Equitable Development (SHED) Work Day

Join SHED’s annual Fall Work Days on Friday, October 15 from 8a to 12p. Assist older residents, people with disabilities, and veterans with exterior home maintenance. All skill levels are welcome. Help SHED pass 500 homes served in University City!

The general description of the work requested by SHED per the homeowners is primarily yard work, painting, and patching sidewalks/driveways.

  • SHED will provide all materials and provide tools as needed (you are welcome to bring tools and materials as well);
  • The volunteers will not go into the residents’ homes. All work will be outside, and volunteers are encouraged to maintain social distance based on their comfort level with the team they are working with.
  • Each house will have a Team leader selected by Wash U who will be SHED’s point of contact for coordinating delivery of materials, tools, etc. The Team leader will visit the home in advance of the day to inspect the work that needs to be done. SHED has provided us with work assessments of the homes including pictures, tools needed, etc.
  • The workday will last just under 4 hours. Volunteers have the option to stay as long as they want, but the homeowners understand that all work may not be completed in this time.
