Our lab explores the following research directions:

  1. How gene-environment interactions modulates mucosal innate immunity. Using small intestinal Paneth cell function as an index of mucosal innate immunity, we use mouse models, organoid culture, and informatics approach to interrogate the complex of gene-environment interactions.
  2. How autophagy modulates gut and liver pathophysiology. We are interested in how autophagy pathway controls gut and liver development using genetic and pharmacologic approaches.
  3. How dietary components modulate gut pathophysiology. We are interested in how dietary fat, sugar, and protein levels modulate response to injury in vivo and stem cell differentiation and survival in vitro.
  4. Harnessing deep learning to develop algorithms for histopathology. We are developing deep learning algorithms for GI and liver pathology features.
