LaShawnda Fields’s research interest is diversity and inclusion in higher education with a specific interest in people’s lived experiences as they relate to the institutional climate and culture. Prior to pursuing her Ph.D. at the Brown School, LaShawnda worked in higher education administration in positions that related to her interest in the experiences of faculty, staff, and students with marginalized identities.  For example, she was the PI on a Department of Education TRiO Student Support Services grant at Washington University in St. Louis. This grant supported students who were from a low-income and or first-generation background.

LaShawnda has experience in grant management, student advising and facilitating training workshops with an emphasis on diversity initiatives. LaShawnda’s teaching experience includes courses in social justice and human diversity, social work practice and social and economic policy. LaShawnda has published articles in respected journals and has several conference presentations to her credit. LaShawnda earned her Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Studies from Saint Louis University and a Master of Social Work from the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis.
