Andreas Kautt, PhD
Assistant Professor
- Phone: 314-935-8527
- Email: kautt@wustl.edu
Andi received his PhD at the University of Konstanz, Germany, as part of the International Max Planck Research School (IMPRS) for Organismal Biology. His main focus was on the genomics of adaptation and speciation in crater lake cichlid fish from Nicaragua. For his postdoc, Andi joined the lab of Hopi Hoekstra at Harvard University, supported by fellowships from the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) and the German Research Foundation (DFG). His postdoc research was focused on population genomics and the evolution of behaviors in North American deer mice. In 2024, he joined the Biology Department at WashU as an Assistant Professor.
Kristina Ottens
Lab Manager
- Phone: 314-935-3904
- Email: ottens@wustl.edu
Kristina has a Master’s degree in Biology from the University of Iowa where she focused on genetic differentiation in a neotropical fruit fly. Before joining the lab she also worked with bats, invasive ants, and most recently on the role of B cells in autoimmune diseases.
Shiyang Wu
Graduate student
- Email: shiyang.w@wustl.edu
Shiyang is a graduate student interested in animal behavior. During his undergraduate at University of California, Berkeley, he worked on jumping spider bioacoustics and multimodal signaling. Outside of the lab, he enjoys finding and observing critters outdoors.
Anouka Saha
Rotating graduate student
- Email: asaha@wustl.edu
Anouka is a graduate student interested in using genomics to study animal behavior. Prior to attending WashU, she got a Bachelor’s in Mathematics from the University of Texas at Austin and studied the differences in frog embryo developmental modes. Outside the lab, she enjoys reading and taking her cat on walks.
Cannon Wolfe
Undergraduate researcher
- Email: c.r.wolfe@wustl.edu
Cannon is an undergrad at WashU majoring in Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology. He is currently learning computational tools to analyze behavioral data.
Noel Beaulieu
Undergraduate researcher
- Email: beaulieu@wustl.edu
Noel is an undergrad at Washu double majoring in Environmental Science and History. He is interested in evolution and evolutionary psychology of animals.
Ellie Wang
Undergraduate researcher
- Email: e.w.wang@wustl.edu
Ellie is an undergraduate at WashU double majoring in Evolutionary Biology and Mathematical Sciences. She is interested in studying the evolution of animal behaviors, speciation, and how that carries over into conservation efforts. In her free time, she enjoys going outside and playing with her cats.
Trey Ochs
Undergraduate researcher
- Email: trey.ochs@wustl.edu
Trey is an undergraduate student at WashU currently majoring in Evolutionary Biology. He is interested in studying the evolutionary history of animals and their behavior. Outside of school, he likes to camp and climb outside.
Anaia Montaque-Harrison
Undergraduate researcher
Anaia is majoring in Environmental Biology and minoring in Linguistics. She is interested in community ecology, especially regarding keystone and endangered species, and conservation biology. In her free time, she enjoys playing volleyball and spending time outside.
Jackson Freeman
Undergraduate researcher
- Email: freeman.j.x@wustl.edu
Jackson is an undergraduate student at WashU majoring in biology. He is interested in genetics and cell biology.
