About Me:
Josephine is a second-year Ph.D. student in the Social Work program at Washington University in Saint Louis. She holds a BA in Adult and Community Education from Makerere University and an MSc in Development Management from the University of Agder-Norway. After her master’s, she worked with single mothers in the rural areas of Rakai district in Uganda through supervising, advising, and mentoring women to optimally use their loan funds. Currently, she works as a research associate with the International Centre for Child Health and Development (ICHAD), a research-based organization that contributes to the reduction of poverty and improvement of public health outcomes for children, adolescents, and families in low-resource communities, through innovative applied intervention research, as well as supporting economic empowerment. At ICHAD, she supports two NIH-funded studies, which role has given her the opportunity to engage in research strategies that apply the theoretically innovative intervention to economically empower vulnerable families including women in HIV-impacted settings. Her research interests aim at addressing the social, familial, and cultural barriers that hinder women’s economic mobility and independence in low-resource households. Email: j.nabayinda@wustl.edu
