Friday, October 13, members of the Biology Department and Mike’s close circle celebrated his 40 years of being greenhouse supervisor, and his retirement! Mike overlooked the construction of the current greenhouse facility, hosted an international education greenhouse conference, and educated many employees and work study students.
We celebrated with a custom cake with a photo of our favorite soil on it, thanks to administrative assistant and lead department socializer Jamie Mullin! Guests shared their favorite stories of Mike, from how diligent and optimistic he is with researchers’ plants to how he often made lab members feel at home in the greenhouse head house.
We hope you have a great time eating good food, drinking good wine, and having good travels in your retirement, Mike! We also welcome Ben Wolf as the new Greenhouse Supervisor!
Dear Mike, I’m so sorry I missed your Retirement Party. I would have been there if I had known about it because I always looked fondly on the five years I spent at Washington University Greenhouse under your tutelage. I enjoyed working with you very much and use what I learned to this day in my greenhouse and vegetable garden. Please send an email and tell me how you are doing.
I will be at Washington University. 2024 graduation of my Grand-daughter, Margaret Joplin, a Computer Science major. We are very proud of her.
