Doctoral Student (Professor Brent Williams, co-advisor)

  • B.S. Chemical Engineering, University of Kansas

Tyler joined Washington University in Fall 2020. He completed a first-year student research rotation with the Turner Group in Spring 2021 and joined the Turner and Williams groups in June 2021. His research focuses on spatial variability of air pollutants at urban- and finer-scales, including work in St. Louis and Louisville. Tyler leads the Turner Group collaboration with Metropolitan Congregations United (MCU) to evaluate potential disparities in ambient PM2.5 concentrations across St. Louis.  He cooperates with MCU to provide outreach to the participating church’s leadership, congregations and neighborhood associations.  This work includes detailed assessment of air quality sensor performance and methods to improve measurement accuracy and precision. Tyler also works in Louisville as part of a team using time-integrated passive sampling and high time resolution measurements to examine outdoor VOC concentrations across the city and determinants for indoor VOC exposures.
