Relationships first, programming later

The Five-O team is committed to providing a dynamic education and community engagement program in support of SSERVI.  Dr. Bruno will work with Haleakalā National Park interpreters in Hawai‘i to develop, field-test, and disseminate place-based, NASA-relevant STEAM public engagement programming.

Key partners will include Earth to Sky and Hawaiian elders, who serve as traditional knowledge keepers. Incorporating indigenous voices allows vital integration of traditional knowledge and cultural values with Western science and technology.

At the summit of Haleakalā are Jin Prugsawan (L), the National Park Chief of Interpretation, and Barb Bruno (R), Five-O Education Lead.

Jin Prugsawan leads National Park visitors down the Pā Kaʻoao trail.

Haleakalā sunrise. A kupuna performs a traditional chant or oli (E ala e).

An experience of a lifetime is to witness sunrise at Haleakalā’s summit, almost 10,000 feet above sea level.
