If an individual that does not speak English is potentially eligible for a study and the inclusion of non-English speakers was not anticipated, the consent “short form” process must be used.

The researcher should carefully consider the ethical/legal ramifications of enrolling participants when a language barrier exists.  Refer to the HRPO Research Guide for additional information about enrolling non-English speakers and the short form process.
