Sonali D. Advani, MBBS, MPH is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Duke University School of Medicine and serves as the Co-Medical Director of Duke Infection Control Outreach Network (DICON). In her role, she assists more than 60 community hospitals in further development and strengthening of their existing infection prevention programs. She also participates as a physician investigator in the research activities of the Duke Center for Antimicrobial Stewardship and Infection Prevention. Prior to joining Duke, she served as the Associate Medical Director for the Yale-New Haven Hospital Epidemiology program.
Dr. Advani has over 10-years’ experience in healthcare epidemiology research and operations. Her initial research focused on prevention of catheter-related harm, diagnostic stewardship interventions, and improving metrics to better align with outcomes. She has been awarded the K12 Urologic Career Development Award, SHEA Research Scholar Award and Pepper Center Career Development Award to continue her UTI related research. In addition, she is one of the key investigators for CDC Epicenter studies related to UTIs and COVID19. Her current work focuses on improving resilience in older adults by de-implementing and de-prescribing inappropriate interventions and medications.
