Melissa Mugambi, MD, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Global Health at the University of Washington. Prior to this appointment, she served as a Program Officer and Fellow on the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s Diagnostics Team. Dr. Mugambi received her medical degree from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and her doctoral degree in Health Services Research and Policy from Case Western Reserve University. Her current research and practice interests focus on designing service delivery models to optimize access to health technologies in antenatal care programs and fostering local health product development efforts through entrepreneurship and training. She is currently PI of an NIMH Career Development Award (1K01MH122326) to design and evaluate strategies to implement HIV prevention interventions for pregnant women in community pharmacy settings. The major goals of this project are to 1) elicit preferences for delivery of HIV prevention interventions (including PrEP, partner testing, and STI screening and treatment) for pregnant women in community pharmacy settings via a discrete choice experiment (DCE) survey, 2) identify the factors that might influence implementation of optimal intervention packages and select strategies to improve implementation, and 3) estimate the costs of extending implementation of HIV prevention interventions from the clinic to community pharmacy settings.
