Luis Menacho, MD, MPH

Luis Menacho MD, MPH is a medical epidemiologist who obtained his medical degree at the University Cayetano Heredia in Peru and a master’s degree in public health at the University of Washington in Seattle. Since his return to Peru in 2010, he has conducted research on HIV prevention with an emphasis on the use of information and communication technologies for improving the continuum of care. He  is trained in health communication and implementation science and has worked in both private and government-based research institutions, and in community-based organizations.

He is currently a researcher at the Institute of Tropical Medicine Alexander von Humboldt and a Junior Faculty at Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia. Dr. Menacho has trained health workers on how to use technology to enhance follow-up and communication with patients, and has led projects involving vulnerable populations in Peru such as men who have sex with men. His current research project aims to improve retention in HIV care among HIV+ gay and bisexual men at a national hospital in Lima, Peru.
